Laser therapy has been around for over thirty years, but recent improvements in technology and cost has made it easier to use in today’s clinical setting. Laser has been shown to be highly effective in treating musculoskeletal conditions such as low back pain, sciatica and arthritis. The technology can also be used for acute sports injuries, repetitive strain conditions, degenerative conditions, as well as, the various symptoms relating to a whiplash injury. Laser used light emitting diodes to treat the damaged or traumatized tissue with photons that promote a physiological reaction that leads to the restoration of normal cell structure and function. The laser promotes a decrease in pain, enhances the body’s immune system response and accelerates the natural healing process. The advantages of laser therapy are that it is easily applied, non-invasive and cost effective. Some of the common conditions that laser has been used successfully for at the Wellness Centre include soft tissue injuries such as sprains and strains, repetitive stress injuries such as carpal tunnel and tennis elbow, low back problems, sciatica and neurological conditions.
